Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can be transmitted through any kind of sexual contact such as vaginal, anal or oral sex. Testing is the only method to know for sure if you have been exposed to an STD due to the asymptomatic nature of most diseases.

When Should You Get Tested?

Individuals should get tested if they have any kind of sexual contact with another person and notice signs of an STD. It is common to have extremely mild signs of STDs, however you should still consult a doctor if you notice anything abnormal! Common signs of different STDs include:

  • Sores or bumps around genitals or thighs

  • Abnormal discharge from genitals

  • Burning sensation when urinating

  • Increased frequency of urination

  • Itching, pain, irritation or swelling in genital region

  • Flu like symptoms such as fever, body aches and feelings of drowsiness
